Project Brief & Context

The client envisioned a home that would feel both open and intimate; modern in its aesthetic, yet deeply connected to its setting. The brief required a building that would celebrate light, transparency and connection with the landscape without disregarding the rural, vernacular context of Leicestershire.

JWA Architects’ approach was to embed modern forms into the site subtly, using materiality and form to bridge tradition and innovation.

Design Concept

From the outset, the design language prioritised clarity of form and purity of material. Large expanses of glazing allow the home to be visually tied to its outdoor environment, bringing natural light deep into the architecture. Meanwhile, crisp aluminium framing and warm hardwood elements create a tactile contrast — a dialogue between cool minimalism and organic warmth. Materials & Detailing

Glass & Transparency – Full-height windows and sliding glazed panels not only optimise daylight and views, but support a sense of permeability between indoors and out.
Aluminium – Used for framing and external elements, this material gives precision and structural clarity, reinforcing the modern aesthetic.
Hardwood – Warm timber cladding and interior joinery soften the palette and connect to the site’s traditional characteristics.
